Teen Wolf’s back! That means that Lindsay Sperling is also back with a new review by “We Got This Covered“!

Teen Wolf is back for season four and the first thing it’s doing is making sure all the fans know that this is an entirely new season. References to previous events are limited (Sorry, Allison!), the setting has changed (at least in the premiere), and you’ll notice some big character changes right off the bat.

“The Dark Moon” is all about sadness and grieving, and the latter is exactly what fans will be doing when they tune in and realize that Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) isn’t quite himself. As opposed to this being another example of his healthy appreciation for the concept of arriving fashionably late which viewers have become accustomed to, he doesn’t make an appearance at all in the season four opener. Instead, the end of the episode leaves off with the realization that Derek has been transformed back to a teenager – played by Ian Nelson, the same actor we saw take on the role in “Visionary,” when Teen Wolf writers gave us a glimpse into Derek’s troubled past.

Hoechlin may be taking a break from the show for now (hopefully he’ll be back before too long), but there was plenty of screen time to go around for the other actors. The opening sequence showcased a dynamic performance from Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and Lydia (Holland Roden), and really set the season off to a great start. As always, Stiles delivers his lines to perfection, setting the bar fairly high, while Kira (Arden Cho) and Malia (Shelley Henig) used their natural female abilities to distract the locals.

Season four starts off in Mexico. Scott (Tyler Posey) and his friends have tracked their only lead as to Derek’s whereabouts to a family of Hunters. We briefly saw these peripheral characters in the last season when they held Derek and Peter (Ian Bohen) captive, searching for the she-wolf. Up until now, it appeared that they were looking for Cora (Adelaide Kane), Derek’s younger sister, but it doesn’t take long to realize that they are actually in search of Kate Argent (Jill Wagner), who like Peter, just wouldn’t stay dead.

We haven’t heard much about Kate since season one, since she was presumed to be dead (getting your throat ripped out pretty much captures the market in that sense), but now she’s coming back in a whole new way. The matriarch of the hunter family called her a shape shifter, but later on in the episode we heard the term ‘were-jaguar’ thrown around. It’s hard to tell if that was in reference to Kate also, since the shape you end up with based on her form of being turned apparently has something to do with her mental state. And if you recall, that mental can best be described as psychotic.

Teen Wolf is introducing a whole new mythology to the show with these new forms of werewolves, as well as the different ways to become one. Originally, the show kept it simple. You could become a werewolf by either being bitten, or being born with it. As the show has evolved, so has the different methods – and the results. Fox, coyote, jaguar, the options seem limitless.

Obviously the writers believe in diversity, but more than that, they seem to concentrate on strengths and weaknesses. There are no invincible characters on Teen Wolf, and that’s how we like it. Watching to see how the characters overcome obstacles makes this a solid watch. On the same note, it’s refreshing to see that there are so many strong – both mentally and physically – female characters on a show that draws in a lot of younger viewers. There are no damsels in distress on Teen Wolf. Or at least no more than the number of men who need saving.

If the season four opener is any indication, it’s pretty clear that Teen Wolf has another hit season on their hands. Let us know if you agree!

Teen Wolf had its season four premiere last monday, yes – we’re totally back! But… Who are those new faces? Find out here!

Dylan Sprayberry as Liam
What we know: No single new Teen Wolf character has created as much buzz and chatter as Liam, a handsome and cocky, yet big-hearted, new transfer student to Beacon Hills High School. He’s not just a transfer student, though. He’s a freshman transfer student, which means that he only lasted a semester at his previous high school. That could have something to do with the fact that his character is said to stir up trouble at school and on the lacrosse field (did we mention that he’s a pretty talented lacrosse player?). But we also know that he’s going to become Scott’s first-ever beta and a kind of little brother to Scott and Stiles, which is pretty awesome.

What we think: We have a feeling that we’re really going to like Liam. His character sounds like he’s well-rounded, yet mysterious, which will make for some interesting interactions and storylines. One prediction that we do have for Liam is that he’s going to have something troubling or dark in his past that’s going to follow him and make life difficult for him in Beacon Hills. After all, Liam is transferring to Beacon Hills as a freshman. We definitely think it’s a bit fishy that he was at his previous high school for a very limited time and that Teen Wolf is making a sort of big deal about his former teammate Brett (who still attends his previous school). Something interesting has to have gone down there and we’re dying to know what it is!

Khylin Rambo as Mason
What we know: Mason is being described as “an out-and-proud athlete” who has a fun personality. He’s also reported to be freshman newbie Garrett’s best friend, making the two of them a sort of “Danny and Jackson 2.0″-like pairing on first glance. However, in a Buzzfeed interview, Jeff Davis clarifies that “He’s a little cocky kid, but he’s not really Jackson. That got generalized in the breakdown.” According to TVLine, Mason will be much more involved with the supernatural elements of the show than Danny has been in the past. (That’s not to say that Danny won’t be more involved this season now that we know that Danny knows.)

What we think: Given his character description, we’re thinking that Mason is going to be a stand-up guy and not a threat to Scott and his pack. Or, at least we hope as much. There have been whispers about Mason being a potential new love interest for Danny this season, which we think would make total sense. Just from the way that Mason has been described in reports, we think he’d get along very well with Danny, even if the two weren’t romantically involved. As far as Mason being involved with the supernatural aspects of Beacon Hills, we’re all for it. Since he’s best friends with Garrett, we can see the both of them being taken into the fold of Scott’s pack in some way or another. Now, we’re just curious as to what their talents (supernatural or human) will be.

Mason Dye as Garrett
What we know: Yes, there is a new actor named Mason and a new character named Mason but actor-Mason is not playing character-Mason. Because that won’t get confusing at all, Teen Wolf. But, we digress… Garrett is a new (presumably freshman?) student at Beacon Hills high school. While there hasn’t been much information reported about the character’s personality, we do know that he’s joining the lacrosse team with his best friend Mason. That’s it. That’s all that we know. It’s a bit of a letdown, we have to say.

What we think: Well, considering that we don’t have any information about Garrett’s personality, we don’t know if he’s going to be more of a protagonist or antagonist. However, since we’ve been hypothesizing that Mason is going to turn out to be a good guy, we can only hope that his friend will do the same.

Cody Saintgnue as Brett
What we know: Honestly, not much. The character of Brett was just announced last Monday. All that we know at this point is that Brett is a (pretty good-looking) lacrosse player who attends and plays for Liam’s previous (and now rival) high school.

What we think: High school sport rivals can only mean one thing: DRAMA. We expect there to be quite a few stink eyes and violent lacrosse checks to happen this season. Not only that, but Liam is a brand new character that’s described as a transfer student. Not to make broad generalizations here, but transfer students (at least on TV shows and in movies) come with their fair share of baggage and secrets. It’s pretty much a trope at this point. So, we’re thinking that there may be some secrets to uncover as to why Liam transferred schools and Brett is just the character to do it.

Unfortunately, there haven’t been any official casting announcements for the last few characters on our list, so we don’t have any photos or assumptions based on physical appearance for you. Sorry!

What we know: Not a whole lot, that’s for sure. According to a spoiler chat on E! Online, “she’s a pretty 16-year-old high schooler who is very unassuming…but she’s a lot tougher than you’d think.”

What we think: We’re all for strong female characters. The way that Violet has been described reminds us a lot of Lydia, so we could potentially see Lydia taking this Violet character under her wing in the same way as Scott and Stiles are mentoring Liam. However, the description of her character is pretty open for interpretation, so there’s as much of a chance of her being an antagonist as there is for her to be a protagonist.

Dr. Greyer
What we know: Dr. Geyer is the new hospital administrator (presumably because the previous administrator threw up his hands, said “Forget this!” and bolted at the first chance he got). According to E! Online, he has a charming personality and is really intelligent. This is all in addition to him being (in true Teen Wolf style) attractive.

What we think: Let’s start out with what E! thinks. While E! Online speculates that he could become Mama McCall’s new love interest, we’re still holding out for Sheriff Stilinski to fulfill that role. After the devastation that happened to Beacon Hills Hospital last season to the tune of “Bad Moon Rising,” we’re hoping that we won’t be seeing any more hospital takeovers for a while. In other words, we’d like to believe that Dr. Geyer is just a charismatic hospital doctor. However, we do have another theory about Dr. Geyer that you’ll find toward the end of this article…

What we know: While we don’t know the actor who will be portraying him this season, Fahey was revealed as a “hired gun”-like character who’s “frightened, yet masculine” (which is a really interesting combination). He’s described as being in his late 30s, which makes him just a bit younger than our favorite Beacon Hills parents.

What we think: It’s interesting that we found out about his character even before we knew we had to worry about The Benefactor, so it’s quite possible that he was hired by someone else. Or, because his character was introduced to us as being frightened, we could also see Fahey as being someone who winds up fighting on Scott’s side after realizing the full magnitude of his assignment. We’re not quite sure yet what to make of Fahey, but we’re interested in seeing what role he plays this season.

??? The Benefactor ???
What we know: “Who is ‘The Benefactor’?” This is being hyped up to be the “Rosebud” of Teen Wolf. We literally know nothing about him aside from the fact that he’s hiring mercenaries and hitmen to take out all of the supernatural beings in Beacon Hills. That’s it. Aside from that, all we know is that we need to ask who he is. Or she. We don’t even know The Benefactor’s gender for sure!

What we think: If we had to make a guess this moment as to who we think will turn out to be The Benefactor, our money would be on Dr. Geyer. The Benefactor could be Dr. Geyer for the simple reasons that he’s intelligent, (presumably) well-off, and handsome. It’s always the good-looking people that you really need to watch out for. Plus, what better place to infiltrate and call “home base” than the Beacon Hills hospital? There’s so much information that flows through there on an hourly basis, not to mention the number of injured supernatural beings.

Other new faces to expect to see around Beacon Hills this season:
The man with no mouth – He’s creepy as hell and we don’t even know what his purpose or role will be yet!
The scary bone creatures – Skeletons and the dead in general are deeply ingrained in Latin American culture, so we’re interested to see what sort of lore surrounds these creatures. It would be interesting if they were the skeletons of dead ancestors and relatives (which are greatly revered), especially since Peter Hale specifically asks, “Can’t someone in this town stay dead?” We could totally see something like this being a force that Scott’s pack has to overcome.
Deputy Haigh – A “mean cop” that will surely impede on quite a few investigations. We’re hoping though that this deputy serves as a sort of catalyst for Deputy Parrish’s storyline.
Ms. Fleming – We’re looking forward to meeting the new Beacon Hills math teacher. However, we’re going to try to not get too attached because Beacon Hills teachers don’t seem to have the longest lifespan (we say as we knock on wood for Mr. Yukimura).
